as you know, the Table of Contents is generated from the paragraph styles Heading 1, Heading 2, Heading 3, etc. the first thing i would do is to make sure that these paragraph styles are consistent throughout the entire document (all Heading 1 styles are bold and all Heading 2 , Heading 3 , etc. are NOT bold.
